Roly-Polies for Toddlers
In the USSR, the roly-poly was considered the first toy for children.
In 1958, roly-polies began to be produced in Kotovsk, at the Tambov Powder Factory. According to some sources, the toy was developed by a research institute specifically for this enterprise to replace the production of defense orders.
The roly-poly is a kind of unofficial symbol and brand of Kotovsk. For the second year now, a roly-poly festival has been held here, a costumed carnival where the main character is a spherical toy from the USSR.
It can be said that the second birth of the roly-poly was initiated by the older generation, nostalgic for the USSR. It was the grandmothers and grandfathers who began buying roly-polies as gifts for their grandchildren. <\/p>
